Despite leading Leeds United to a successful promotion to the Premier League, coach Daniel Farke may be facing potential dismissal. According to a report by the Daily Mail, the club’s owners are reportedly skeptical about Farke’s ability to manage in the world’s top league.
Farke previously managed Norwich City from 2019 to 2022, where he oversaw 49 Premier League matches, achieving only six victories. Leeds United, which has a minority investment from Red Bull, is primarily owned by 49ers Enterprise, and discussions are reportedly underway regarding alternative coaching options.
The report indicates that the owners are aware that firing Farke would be an immensely unpopular decision, and any successor would immediately face pressure if results do not improve.
Farke, a former coach of Borussia Mönchengladbach, secured Leeds‘ return to the Premier League on Monday, just two matchdays before the Championship season concluded. This achievement marks Farke’s third promotion to the English top flight, a feat previously matched only by the iconic English coach Neil Warnock.
Last season, Farke’s Leeds team fell short in the promotion playoffs, leading to the sale of several key players. As a result, their relatively straightforward ascent to the Premier League is seen as somewhat unexpected. Historically, significant investments in the squad are required to maintain Premier League status.
